Dr Dathu Rao Memorial Charitable Trust, Chennai a registered Society registered under the Tamil Nadu Societies Registration Act 1975 has been running the following institutions: 1. PATHWAY CENTRE FOR REHABILITATION & EDUCATION OF INTELLECTUALLY DISABLED Thiruvanmiyur, Chennai Dr. Dathu Rao Memorial Charitable Trust, Pathway Centre for Rehabilitation and Education of the Intellectually Disabled, Chennai, India, is a voluntary, charitable, non-profit organization established in the year 1975. Its purpose is to provide comprehensive care and educational opportunities for Intellectually Disabled children. Pathway is founded on the philosophy that every individual should be given the opportunity to utilize their potential in order to live with dignity and self respect, regardless of mental or physical limitations. Today over 50 children receive full care at the live-in facility, while another 100 children are seen on daily basis for rehabilitation and educational programs. In Pathway, all children are served free, without any charges. Prior to being admitted to the centre's Day or Residential program, each child is thoroughly screened and evaluated to assess their level of mental, neurological and physical development. These methods of testing and observation assist in designing a special education and vocational program for each child. Pathway's goal is to offer medical care, special education and vocational training to as many mentally and physically handicapped children and adults as possible. During the last 39 years Pathway has served more than 40000 children and adults with various problems and disabilities. Services that pathway offers for children, special education, speech therapy and audiology, physiotherapy , occupational therapy, medical care, neurological and pediatrics services, psychiatric out-patient services, dental care and treatment, residential care unit, day care programme, pre-vocational and vocational rehabilitation, yoga, literacy program for children, recreational therapy, employment of the disabled. In addition to this the centre also offers free medical and dental services to nearly 4500 poor and deserving patients every month. The centre also assists nearly 150 poor slum children every day offering free education support from the past several years. Pathway runs in a 10,000 sq feet area having its own building hence maintenance and renovation is regularly done. Pathway has been commended by the state government as well as the India government for its services to the disabled over these years. It has received considerable awards 2. PAMELA MARTINEZ/PATHWAY MATRICULATION SCHOOL AND CHILDREN’S HOME Agili Maduranthakam Taluk, Kancheepuram district. This institution was named after its donor and was established in the year 2001. This facility is dedicated to children who are either destitute, orphan or very poor. Several of the children are also with single parent. This institution has state of art facilities to offer quality English medium education for hundreds of children that live in the facility. The school is fully recognized by the Directorate of Matriculation Schools, Chennai and this Directorate has accorded recognition from 1st to 8th standards/ grades during the year 2004-2005. During the year 2005-2006 the school has been further upgraded up to 9th and 10th standards and it has been proposed to open more facilities for children. Separate laboratories for biology, Physics, Chemistry and a library have been opened with all necessary ingredients. Further, a well quipped computer lab and a vast library has been added.Both boys and girls live in well planned buildings, exclusive for each gender with very good amenities and facilities. This institution also has a large dining and well appointed kitchen that serves wholesome vegetarian food as stipulated by a nutritionist. The children’s home offers good education to these children without any bias to religion or caste and supports many of the deserving children for their higher education in colleges and polytechnics. Every year more than 200 children below poverty level are benefitted from this centre. The buildings and play ground are spread to nearly 7 acres hence the maintenance and renovations are taken on regular basis 3. PATHWAY-SABIN HOME FOR PERSONS WITH INTELLECTUAL DISABILITY & ASSOCIATED CONDITIONS Agili Maduranthakam Taluk, Kancheepuram district. This very well planned facility was inaugurated in the 2009 and has been serving disabled children, adolescents and adults with various problems such as intellectually disabled, cerebral palsy, autism etc. This centre offers comprehensive services that include special education, vocational training, occupational therapy, physio Therapy, residential care, recreational care, etc. The facilities have large and spacious buildings spreading to around 5 acres that house the various activities of the centre. Over 50 adult boys live in this centre. Agriculture is carried to be as self sufficient in food aspect as possible thereby providing more job opportunities for the Intellectually disabled and other deserving members of the society. In addition to this the organization is also running a Social responsibility Based Rehabilitation programme across 13 surrounding villages. All the services of the organization is offered free of cost.The society through the above three centres serves approx. 520 children and adults with various and varied needs every day. All these centres offer highly nutritious vegetarian breakfast, lunch, snack and dinner every day.
